Context
When the Loyalty mini app was first assigned to me, it was a new product with a dedicated Product Owner and a tight deadline. The first version was built fast and functional, but limited in features and honest in its design shortcomings.
Shortly after launch, an EHOD from the M-Pesa area stopped me in the corridor and told me directly that the design could be better. She was right. That feedback stayed with me.
Almost a year later, we ran a warroom with developers, the Product Owner, and the EHOD responsible for mini apps to rethink the product from the ground up. My goal was clear: translate new features, complex business rules, and a new design direction into a seamless, high-converting user experience.
The Revamp
The warroom defined everything: new features, new reward categories, new partner integrations, and a completely redesigned navigation structure.
My job was to translate this complex ecosystem into an intuitive user journey. I replaced the old, transaction-heavy dashboard with a discovery-driven layout featuring engaging cards for "Hot Deals" and "Challenges." To ensure scalable usability as new features rolled out, I architected a robust Bottom Navigation bar, significantly reducing cognitive load and flattening the app hierarchy.
I presented multiple proposals, and the team approved the direction. The EHOD then took me personally to a high-stake meeting with the CEO of Vodacom Mozambique to present the final experience. He enthusiastically approved the design, suggested a few feature additions, and made one thing clear: the visual direction was flawless and not to be changed. That version was developed and is live today.

What I shipped
The redesigned Loyalty mini app introduced a richer rewards catalogue, improved navigation, and a cleaner visual system. Every screen was designed to make redeeming points feel effortless and rewarding
Impact
The redesigned Loyalty mini app is live today as a core engagement driver within the M-Pesa ecosystem. By shifting from a static points-viewer to an interactive rewards marketplace, the new design successfully achieved:
Executive Alignment: Secured 100% sign-off from C-level executives (CEO and EHODs) with zero modifications to the core visual identity.
Scalable Architecture: Successfully integrated multiple third-party partners and complex dynamic gamification features ("Challenges") without compromising app performance or layout integrity.
Massive Adoption: Simplified the reward redemption loop for hundreds of thousands of active M-Pesa users, transforming everyday transactions into a rewarding, frictionless habit.
